The Industry Loses an Icon, Mentor and Friend
Marvin Goldenberg, 86, the founder of Trucks & Parts of Tampa, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 24, 2010.
Marvin Goldenberg started the original company in 1950 and helped build it into the industry leader that it is today. He was also the founder of National Auto Parts, National Trux-n-Parts, and The Old Car Company. Additionally, he was President of the National Auto and Truck Wreckers Association, involved with S.C.O.R.E. (counselors for small business executives), and an antique car collector.
Marvin Goldenberg was a savvy businessman but also thoughtful, compassionate, and selfless almost to a fault. Throughout his business career, he firmly believe in hiring the underprivileged and in giving people a chance, or a second chance. He was a decent man through and through and he believed in the good of all people.
Marvin Goldenberg lived a rich, full life; he built things of use; he valued the traditions of the past - whether it be a beautifully made car or a first-class greasy spoon diner. He had a sense of loyalty and honor so elevated that some might call it old-fashioned. He was also an innovator and a smart and skillful navigator of the future. He was devoted to his beloved wife of 61 years, Betty Goldenberg and he cherished his children and grandchildren. He was always there to help his friends as well. Marvin Goldenberg always found light in the darkest places and he was a joy to be around. One of his favorite sayings was:
If you think you dare not, you don’t;
If you like to win but think you can’t, it’s almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost, for out in the world we find,
Success begins with the fellow’s mind.
If you think you’re outclassed, you are; you’ve got to think to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win the prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the man you wins is the one who thinks he can.
Marvin Goldenberg will be missed, but his lesson and influence will live on.
